International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners

Onze verontschuldigingen, dit bericht is alleen beschikbaar in het English.

In summer 2013 members of several ABC groups discussed the necessity of introducing an International Day for Anarchist Prisoners.

They found it important to emphasise the stories of our comrades. Many imprisoned anarchists will never be acknowledged as ’political prisoners’ by formal human-rights organisations, because their sense of social justice is strictly limited to the capitalist laws which are designed to defend the State and prevent any real social change. At the same time, even within our individual communities, we know so little about the repression that exists in other countries, to say nothing of the names and cases involving many of our incarcerated comrades.

At a gathering of radicals in Rosia Montana the following activities took place in response to the call out:

  • Letters to prison (workshop): Prison is isolation, a letter can be the high point of the day. At this workshop tips to write letters to prisoners were shared, the cases of some some anarchist prisoners around the world were read loud and participants wrote ** letters to different anarchist prisoners.
  • Mask up! (solidarity picture): A banner with the slogan of the week was made, and people in solidarity with prisoners took a picture of themselves with the banner. The picture will be edited into a postcard and printed, to be use to write our comrades in prison.
  • Anarchist prisoners board: A board was hanged on a visible place telling the cases of some anarchist prisoners we know about, along with info about the Week of Solidarity, contacts of prisoners support groups around the world and a summary of the history of Anarchist Black Cross.

Comrades from dozen of places congratulated Mikalai Dziadok

Today the belarussian anarchist prisoner Mikalai Dziadok turns 26. This is his forth and hopefully the last birthday that he celebrates behind the bars.

A couple of months ago ABC Belarus spread a call to make a video-congratulation for Mikalai. His supporters are grateful to everyone who answered this call and sent their postcards. Mikalai will be able to see it only in half a year when he is free, but we have an opportunity to enjoy it right now.

If you cant watch the video bellow, try this address with http instead of https or follow this link:
